Rebbe Tzvi Hirsch Kahana the Spinka Rebbe of LA was the son of Reb Mordechai Kahana son of Reb Nachman Kahana of Spinka SIL of the First Spinka Rebbe known as the Imrie Yosef.

He was still living in lA in 1983, would be interesting to find if/when he passed away and where he was buried.

The first orthodox rabbi in Culombus Ohio was named Rabbi Kalman Landau. The following is what I found on him.

Kalman London died on the east side in the 20s. When he finished his tenure in Columbus, he went back to study Torah.

He went to a Chevra on the east side which was a shomer Shabbos. They took only shomer Shabbos people in that society called the Adath B’nai Israel on East Broadway. And he simply went to that Chevra and he sat and studied Torah day and night. He ate very little but he studied Torah. One morning when they came in, they found him dead over a Gemorrah. And he is buried in their cemetery in the New York area…buried in the Adath B’nai Israel cemetery in New York.

Kalman London was related to the Schottenstein family and this is what brought the Schottensteins very early to Columbus and Agudas Achim.

One of his son in laws Reb Tuvia Aaronsohn who made the sefer Likutei Margolius past away in 1970. http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=41703&st=&pgnum=1&hilite=

I recently posted almost 50 JPG files with images of American rabbanim that I snapped a couple of years ago from the 1909 and 1915 editions of אוצר התמונות by R. Benzion Eisenstadt, a”h.

Some rabbanim appeared in both editions of the book.

Many of these rabbanim already have listings on this web site.

His father was Yaakv. He had a brother in America who has frum descendants. I think he spelled his name different, Lopin or something like that.

There’s a whole section at the Beth David Cemetery in Elmont NY, behind the Novominsker Ohel where there are buried together many Rabonim and Gedolim who were members of the Agudas Anshe Mamod of the East Side (Rav Henkin is also buried among them). I wrote an article on “ivelt” with a lot of information about the organization and some of the Rabbis buried there.
