Oh, and BTW, the Fisher family is related to us through Rabbanit (Chaya Sara) Pfeffer. Devorah Fisher (nee Yaegar) was my great-grandmother Chaya Sara’s youngest sibling. Devorah (whom I never met, but my parents did) was born two years AFTER my grandmother, her niece. Her brother Martin, whom I did meet before he passed away, lived in for many years and never married.

The above Website is a blog I created for our family. I put up a pic of Grandpa Alter Shaul

My grandfather, Max (Michael) Schay is buried (with my grandmother Channa, and his sister Hilda and several other members of our family) in Queens. We think it’s called Mount Zion (it sounds like it from the directions). I’ve been there many times though not recently.

I am the Great Granddaughter of Rabbi Alter Shaul Pfeffer. My grandmother was his youngest daughter. I am happy to supply photos and a family tree. Thanks for including him here. He was a very special man to many. My grandmother loved to share her family stories and had great pride.

Miller you’re right (the biography i read was incorrect, it was in one of the Satmar publications for Parshas Vyakheil-Pikudei of this year). Rabbi Pfeffer was a BIL with Reb Aharon Fisher the father of the Raved, they were both SIL of Reb Mayer Leib Yeger of Bitchkov who was a famous wealthy person.

A while ago I read an article, it said that Reb Yisroel Yakev Fisher Ztz”l the Gaved of Yerushalayim was his grandson his mother was a daughter of Reb Alter Shaul.

Yes indeed, it is your translation of Rabbi YY Greenwald’s Bio that your cousin shared with us, I believe I already saw the photo before on www. hebrewbooks.org (they used to have a Bio section, its gone now).

You both had a great anccestor, he defineltley was one of the pioneers of uncompromised Judaism on the American soil, for a time he was the highest Torah Authority on Gitin and Kedushin (Talmudic Marriage laws).

Naomi, is that the bio Aaron and I translated? I do see a link up there (blackleibel) to my family tree page (and links to other parts of the family tree). Your pic is from Eli’s upsherin?

The third volume of Avnei Zikaron was published (by our family, I think, in particular, my grandfather, Grandpa Alter Shaul’s son-in-law and protege and successor at BHH and Horowitz Margarettan). It was from there that my brother Aaron and I got a bio that we translated.

What can you tell us about your great grandfather? As far as I know he was a polish born Hungarian Rabbi, and then emigrated to the US, were any of his children Rabbis?

Or perhaps maybe you have a good photo to share, we would appreciate any thing on this great Torah Scholar.
