I just like to relate a story that heard many years ago from From Rabbi Leon Guttmann a”h of White Oak, Pa., who was a talmid. He said that Reb Dovid had the custom of waiting to be Mikadesh livana after 7 days according to the custom of the mikubalim. Once the Talmidim saw being mikadesh livana after 3 days (as brought in Shulchan Aruch). His talmidim asked him “why he didn’t wait until after 7 days as was his custom?” And “birov am hadras melech” He replied : “Because I’m not going to be here” He went into the hospital a few days later and was nifter 10 Tammuz (I think it was Tammuz).
