RABBI SHABSI ROSENBERG Rabbi Shabsi Rosenberg who played an important role in the spiritual development of the Russian community that centered around Moore Street and Graham Avenue the latter part of the nineteenth century and the earlier part of the twentieth century came here upon the invitation of the members of Congregation Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol He was educated in Vilna Poland and married at the age of 14 to a girl of 12 It is a curious coincidence that he and Dr Leon Louria came over on the same boat It is also a curious coincidence that Dr Louria slept in Rabbi Rosenberg's synagogue for some time because the doctor had no money with which to rent a lodging place Rabbi Rosenberg was very influential with the early settlers He administered to their needs for about a quarter of a century He was born in a small hamlet in Russia in 1848 He spent fifteen years in the Vilna Yeshivah under the guidance of the most learned minds of Russia In Brooklyn RabbiRosenberg exerted a great influence on the sale of kosher meat on which subject he was a great authority He published a voluminous book written in Hebrew and Rashi on the subject of kosher meat of which subject he had made an exhaustive study while in Russia He succeeded in influencing the butchers to follow his suggestions after holding a series of conferences with them These he gave his holy sanction so those who wanted kosher meat knew from whom to buy No butcher received this holy sanction who did not know how to prepare kosher meat for the market Rabbi Rosenberg was also influential through his sermons which he delivered Saturdays in Yiddish He used to denounce in strong language the Sabbath breakers He was charitable He gave from his own income which was and influenced others to give to the needy and the A monument to his memory was erected by a committee that was headed by Michael Stein Rabbi Rosenberg left four children Allan R and Louis are directing the Knickerbocker Plate Glass Company Jenny Kaufman and Mrs Eva Sherry .

I saw at Bigeleisen a few months ago that they republished his sefer. There is a long kuntress from the rav of Mir Rav Eliyahu Boruch Kamoi ztl. I heard that this is the only thing ever published from the Mirrer rov zatzal. Is that so?

I am sure that there would be an official and unofficial chief rabbi and lets not forget all the assistant and emeritus chief rabbis.
It good to see that nothing in Yiddishkeit ever changes????.except for the bugs in the water and on fruit, they are always changing.
