Chief Rabbi Solomon Jaffe married my maternal grandparents, Jacob Tulman and Adeline (Ada) Greenberg, at Beth Medrash Hagadol in New York on December 25, 1910. I would be thrilled to hear from any descendants of R’ Jaffe.

Who was the Rabbi Yaffe that had a Yeshiva in Kansas City, MS in the late 1950s. My grandfather Rabbi Shatz was the Shochet at that time and he hosted some of the talmidim at that time. In fact he even took one of the talmidim as a SIL.

Still waiting for this Matzieve to be flipped over in order to confirm who this Rabbi/Chazzan was, in the mean time Found the following in Jewish Encylopedia, which adresses the question above as for which Yedidia was his father:

Israel b. Jedidiah (K):

Cantor at Suwalki and in New York city; author of “Ishshe Yisrael,” commentary to Moses Isserles’ “Torat ha-’Olah” (Königsberg, 1854-57); died in New York city 1888; descendant of Israel b. Aaron of Shklov (as is evident from the preface to “Torat ha-’Olah”) and not of Jedidiah b. Abba of Bausk (as given by N. Sokolov in “Sefer Zikkaron”).

i saw it in a chazonisha book (1930)he was a chazzan and a mchaber sfurim. his son is also buried in the cem. died in 1898 age 56-58

I came through the Reb Yedidya Yaffa Shatz of Sauvolk, But according to the years it’s probably not that same one. It makes more sense that this is the Yedidya i mentioned above.

YD, according to your link above –
1. Solomon Jaffe buried in that section is his son.
2. He was 73yo – his headstone fell (or was vandalized) the wrong way.

YD, i think you nailed it, he’s buried in the Suwalker section, can get closer than that.

In that sefer he signs off his name with SHA”TZ – does that stand for Shliach Tzibbur – that explains his title as REV. Would that make him a Chazzan?

And if I am correct in my previuos post, we are talking about Rabbi Yiroel Jaffe (or Yufeh) of Suwolk-Subolk, who printed the Toras Haolah of the Rema”h (Rabbi Moshe Iserlis of Cracow) with his commentary named Ishie Yisroel.

I think that this is not the same Rabbi Yedidya Jaffa, I found a source (link below) that this Rabbi Yedidya Jaffe was the son of Reb Israel Zuta JAFFE son of Reb Ahron Jaffe who was the the son of Reb Israel Saba (changed name to Jaffe) who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Joseph TEOMIM FRANKEL, Rabbi of Cracow.

Rav Shimon Peretz also lived in the United States at one point. He eventually went to EY where he passed away.
There is one more Jaffe listed Rabbi Shlomo Tuvia Jaffe, where does he fit in?

There was A Rabbi Yedidya Jaffa a Rav in the city Boisk who was the son of Reb Avrum Abli Jaffa the Rav of Ponevizh.

The famous Rav Rabbi Elchanan Sholom Jaffa from NY was a grandson of this RA”A Jaffa his father Reb Shimon Peretz was a son of RA”A.

Being so, then Rabbi Israel Jaffa’s father was RE”SH’s uncle.

He died 11/27/1896 – 22 Kislev 5657 – age 94.
There’s a Solomon Jaffe (age 57) buried in that same gate, he died in 1897. I didn’t find the actual headstone yet.
Hope someone can dig up some info on him.
Rav Barit is buried on his left.
