Biographical Notes:
Photo Caption: Rabbi Lazarus Kantrowitz died suddenly at his home near Potter’s bridge on Monday morning. He was 88 years old. While walking about his room Mr. Kantrowitz fell to the floor and died shortly after. His wife and two daughters, “Mrs. Nathan Samuels of Utica and Mrs. Rachel Hansford of Saginaw Mich. survive him. The dead rabbi was a Russian by birth. He came to America about 1850. He served Jewish congregations in different parts of the country. For 12 years he was rabbi of a synagogue in New York. He came first to Utica during the war and served the first Hebrew society in a hall on Genewee street before a synagogue had been built and taught a school of Hebrew youths.
