Rabbi Sperka was graduate of the Hebrew Theological College. He first served as Rav in the early thirties in Mount Clemens. He served as Rav of Bnei Dovid from 1933-1953. He then served 24 years at Young Israel. The Seforim referred to in the grave inscription are English language works on Koheles, Iyov, and Mishlei and his work Eternal Life, described as “a digest of the laws of mourning with the complete funeral, burial and unveiling services”.
Rabbi Sperka was born in Poland on November 15th 1904 and immigrated to America in his teens. He graduated from the Hebrew Theological College in 1931 and became Rav in Mount Clemens and then Ann Arbor for one year each. He then became Rav of Bnei Dovid where he served until 1953. He then served for 24 years at Young Israel. The seforim referred to on the grave are English language works on Koheles, Mishlei, and Iyov and a book called Eternal Life (1939) which described as containing a digest of the laws of mourning and the complete funeral, burial, and unveiling services. Rabbi Yaakov Yoel Sperka, author of commentaries to the various works of the Ramban and on the 13 Ikrei Emunah is his son.
