I read his year of death as 5658, thus Nissan 2 5648, which corresponds to March 13/14, 1888. Comparing the last character in the year to other Hays and Chets on the tombstone shows that it clearly is a Chet.
If he definitely died in 1885, then the year has been engraved incorrectly.
A follow-up to my previous comment. He apparently died during a famous blizzard in 1888. This means that the year on the stone, 5658, is correct, and that his secular date of death was March 13th or 14th, 1888.
