Bio Information:
Rav Michael Shalom Winkler, a talmid (student) of Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld was born in the old Yishuv of Jerusalem. In 1932, Rav Winkler traveled to New York to raise the necessary funds to establish a yeshiva in Denmark. Unfortunately, he did not succeed with the mission. Unable to collect enough money for the return trip to Denmark, Rav Winkler stayed in New York.

How could that happen
Apparently fundraising wasn?t his thing.
What year did he arrive in the USA.
Was he 85yo upon his passing? is that an apostrophe between the Peh and Heh (9th line)
Why is the date on top and why is it spelled as Tarvatz and not TarTzav?
His sons live in Yerushalayim and Lakewood. His grandsons are choshuver Marbitzei Torah.
Here are his seforim: http://www.hebrewbooks.org/35691
http://www.hebrewbooks.org/39183.
Rav Michael Shalom Winkler, zt”l, was also an ardent supporter of Sarah Schenirer, zt”l when she first approached the rabbanim in Europe for their haskamah in starting yeshivos for girls. He served many years as rav of several communities across Germany, and finally of Machzikei Hadas in Copenhagen. He died of heat stroke in NY while raising funds for orphans, for which he was moser nefesh. When he was once asked what he thought about The New Testament, his reply was: “Whatever in it is new, is not good; and whatever in it is good, is not new.” He was a skillful and witty philosopher who knew how to be mekarev even the most skeptical of skeptics. Based on the stories I heard about him from my father, and his letters to my father, and his sefarim, I have always thought of him as a gifted blend of Rav Shimshon Rafael Hirsch, zt”l, and Rav Chayim Yosef Sonnenfeld, zt”l. His philosophy represented a harmonious mix of the two. He was also a well-known grammar expert in both Hebrew and Aramaic, his corrections and ha’ga’hos appearing in the margins of many of the sefarim we inherited from him, including the Vilna Shas. He was also a shtick’l rebel, refusing to cooperate with the Religious Ministry of Copenhagen when they were conducting their census of the Jewish populace. His opposition was not with the generous Danish kingdom but with the Jewish Ministry, whose leadership at the time did not sufficiently reflect the Torah way.
Hi Gershon it’s Michael Winklers daughter. It’s very interesting to read all this !
