  I think he was my Grandmother’s brother.

  My grandmother lived in Dej before imigrating to Israel.
  (But I’m not shure she was born in Dej)
  My mother’s cousins from USA:
  Jene Bloom(Mantel) and Hugo Mantel and others…

  ר’ יחיאל מאנטל נולד לאביו ר’ ישראל בח”י חשון שנת תרמ”ב בעיר וואראלא (הונגרי’) למד אצל גדולי ארצו ר’ זאב גאלדבערגער (?), ר’ יחזקאל פאנעט מדעעש (Daj), ור’ משה שמואל גלאזנער מקלויזענבורג. נסמך להוראה ע”י הגאונים ר’ צבי קינסטליכער אב”ד הערמענשטאט וסעבען, ור’ שלום קרויס אב”ד לעגעניע.

  בשנת תרס”ז נשא אשה ממשפחה כבודה מוויען-אוסטרי’, ושלח ידו במסחר בבודאפעסט וידרוש שם בביהכ”נ ‘אור חדש’ שלא ע”מ לקבל פרס מדי שבת בשבתו ומועדים.

  בשנת תרפ”ב בא לאמעריקא ונתקבל לשמש ברבנות לקהלת חברה משניות באיסט נוא יארק, דרשותיו הופיעו מקודם בקונטרסים בקובצים תורניים שונים ולאחמ”כ בשנת תרצ”ט הופיע ספרו תחת השם “ווארט און צייט”.

  the second line was mixed due to the hebrew-english, it should read:

  למד אצל גדולי ארצו ר’ זאב גאלבערגער (?) ר’ יחזקאל פאנעט מדעעש, ור’ משה שמואל גלאזנער

  so if your grandmother comes from Dej it makes sense that you’re related

  Definitly Rabbi Mantel was my Grandmother’s
  brother.
  His son Harav Dr.Hugo Mantel was teaching at Bar-Ilan University Jewish History(Sanhedrin)
  and we had very close relatinships.

  Rabbi Yechiel Mantel z’l was my grandfather. He was niftar when I was eight years old and I remenber him well. He was a mechaber of seforim Vort un Zeit (2 volumes)and Mantel’s folks redner which are droshos on the parshas and the yomim tovim

  Yes,I remember you…When I was about 14
  years old you stayed at our home in Israel.
  The last time I met your mother was before
  16 years (at the my mother shiva’)

  As I understand it, Rabbi Yechiel Mantel was my materal grandfather’s (Lazer Mantel) uncle. I have a picture of his father, Yisrael Mantel, hanging in my office. I’ve seen this picture in the homes of other Mantel relations, namely Jean Bloom, Shmuel Bloom’s mother. I also have one volume of Vort un Zeit.
