Rav Dovid Yosef Schick ztl is my grandfather, who tragically died at a young age, leaving a widow and four young children.
The famous Schick’s bakery was started so that my incredible grandmother a”h, a widow for over 50 years, could survive and provide for her family.
My Zeidy wrote two English seforim that I have among the last extant copies. These seforim are eye-openers and provide a rare glimpse of an American Rabbi dealing with the challenges of a depression-era congregation.
My grandfather is a direct descendent of the Imrei Dovid zt”l.
Who was the Imrei Dovid?
The Imrei Dovid was Rabbi Dovid Schick of Brezove and later Rabbi in Tokayi, Hungary.
The Schicks were a famous Rabbinic family in Galicia and Hungary, withe most famed being Rabbi Moshe Schick of Chust the Mahara”m Schick, a desciple of the Chasam Sofer and one of the leaders of the Orthodoxy in Hungary.
Yoni,
Who was Reb Yosef Dovid’s father and when did he come to the US, I see there was also Rabbi Mordechai Schick in McCeesport PA.

There was a Rav Benyamin Schick (he passed away about a year ago) who was know as Tokaj Rav, is this the same family?
If anyone would like to know the exact location of this grave: I took the pic at Wash. Cemetery, Cemetery #3. It is right along Bay Parkway, close to the street, at the far end near 59th Street.
YD, His father’s name was Rav Chaim Meir, but I unfortunately do not know much more. As you said, he was a Rav as well, though my understanding is that he did not come to the US, only my grandfather did for a shidduch with my grandmother, and then stayed.
and thanks, Azi, for the photo and info.
Yoni,
How do you know that he was a “direct descendent of the Imrei Dovid ztâl”?
Who was his wife?
Chevraman,
Reb Binyamin was the zon of Reb Menachem Zev Schick the Tokayi Ravand they were Einiklech of the Imrei Dovid.

Can you shed any light to R’ Mordechai Schicks stay in Mckeesport, Pa as my great grandfather (Rav Yaakov-Jacob Friedman) was living in Clairton, Pa (next town over) a Melamud and Rov from 1922-1940 at the time he was nifter.
Yankie Friedman
By coincidence, I came across this Kever this past Purim, the day of the Rav z”l yahrzeit.
I was driving past on Bay Parkway when i pulled over and noticed this headstone – it stuck out from the rest due to it’s age.
Realizing that the yahrzeit was this very same day, i was kinda taken back by the coincidence.
After googling a bit, i finally found a son of his, Dr. Marvin Schick, who surprisingly resides in BP.
Happens to be that Dr Marvin went through surgery and wasn’t able at the time to dig up some pictures of his father or write me more about him.
He did share with me his misgivings towards West Side Jewish Center for the wrongful sale of grave sites (within the same gate as of the Rav) to Russians, some of them whom may not be even Jewish. He did not want to elaborate.
If anyone has a picture and is willing to share ’em with me, I’d be very appreciate.
Is it the same Dr. Marvin Schick who is the administrator off the RJJ school system?
I believe so. Below is a link to his blog;

I found in the Sefer Yashriesh Yaakov (link below) a special thanks to Rabbi Dovid Yosef Schick “a famous Rabbi in New York”.
The Sefer was authored by Rav Yaakov Schick of Nagydvar, Hungary son of the above mentioned Rav Dovid Schick of Toakayi, and was printed by the author’s two sons Rav Mier Schick of Onad and Rav Menachem Schick of Sickso.
It appears then that this Rav Schick was the son of Rav Mier of Onad as he is labled “Grandson of the author”.

Rav Schick had/has 3 sons;
1) Reb Mier (Marvin)
2) Reb Asher Anshil
3) Reb Arye
and one daughter married to Reb Chaim Maletzki.
He had a BIL Reb Kalman Sholom Kellner, rav in Tanke, Hungary and then in Passaic NJ.
He was the Rabbi of the west Side Jewish Center or Cong. Bies Yisroel, on 347 west 34th st in Manhattan.
One of his works in English is named “The Kaddish; Its power for good”.

Greetings,
I just found a letter and book I bought on ebay by Rabbi Yekusiel Mordechai Schuck on his letter head from when he was in McKeesport PA as Rabbi.
In the letter he is giving a copy of Emri Dovid which came with the letter to a friend. Very odd I bought this from a non-Jew who got it an estate sale.
Addendum:
Can someone please tell me more about Rabbi Y. M Schick the author. Please email me.
