R’ Moshe Feinstein’s brother in law
In the introduction of Rav Moshe Feinstein’s sons to the 8th volume of his Teshuvos they give honor to Rav Nechemiah Katz, who died as it was being printed. They say that he gets the credit for rescuing the entire family from Soviet Russia.
Rabbi Katz lived in Kew Gardens, Queens, in his last years where I grew up. I was zocheh to get Brochos from him both as a Cohen and an Adam Gadol.
There are two Katz brothers living in yerushalayim, both tremendous talmidei chachamim. One is a rebbi in the mir yeshivah, and one is a mashgiach in Toras Chaim. They are either grandsons or great grandsons.
