Rabbi Shimon Shkop served as Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS for close to 2 years. It was a dream job for him as he was paid $10,000 (1920’s money), $3,000 was for his living expenses here in New York and $7,000 to support his Yeshiva back in Europe. He was basically able to learn all day without worries of fundraising. The Rosh Yeshiva eventually returned to Europe at the request of the Chofetz Chaim and Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzinski as his Yeshva was falling apart without him. If I remember correctly, Rabbi Dr. Belkin escorted him to Boston from where he sailed back to Europe.
I once read that Rav Shimon wanted to move to EY as he was offered to head up Yeshivas Mercaz HaRav. Supposedly, there are letters going back and forth with the administration there. Does anyone have additional information?

Hi, I hope all is well. This past Shabbos I was sitting with Rabbi Yankel Bergman of KGH. Rabbi Bergman taught in Share Torah (Kew Gardens) for many years and was close with Rav Zelig Epstein related to me, the following in his name: The world thinks that Rav Shimon went back to Europe because of all the nasty letters he was getting from Europe, especially from Rav Yerucham. That’s not why he went back, he loved America, he loved the Yeshiva, and he especially loved the American bocharim. He went back because his daughter-in-law, Rebbitzin Sarah Henya, was a frumer and hated it here in America and was constantly begging him to go back. Apparently, Rav Shimon came here with his son Rav Moshe Mordechai and daughter-in-law to help look after him.
