I know an older man, a Greek Jew, may he be well, ××××Ø× ×××× ××©× ×× ×××××Ŗ, from the ancient Greek Jewish (Romaniote, e.g. from Janina, not Sepharadic) community, who grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where there was (and still is) a Greek Romaniote Shul, Kehila Kedosha Janina. He and his brothers, went to yeshiva on the LES then due to the ××©×¤×¢× of Rav Dvorzetz z”l, he told me. Although they came from a different edah and a different background, Rav Dvorzetz was able to prevail upon their father to send them to yeshiva, thereby saving them for Yiddishkeit.
As the matzeivah references, ×××§× × ×¤×©××Ŗ ××× – ×ש×× ××:×.
