Rav Shteif was also the chief rabbi of the Viener community in the United States.
On the bottom of his Matzieve, his son Reb Zvi Yehudah is mentioned, he perished in Auschwitz HY”D but his children survived.
Whose children survived?
Reb Zvi Yhuda’s
Rabbi Jonathan b. Zvi Steif (1877-1958), was a prominent rabbinical scholar, served in prestigious communities. A student of the Ktav Sofer, he was appointed to the Budapest Rabbinical court in 1923. After the Holocaust he settled in the United States where his views and responsa were widely accepted. Several of his works were published in Europe during his lifetime, several books of collected responsa and novella were printed in Brooklyn after his demise.
I believe the Ksav Sofer was niftar in the 1860s. He wasn’t born yet.
The Ksav Sofer was niftier in 1871 (still a problem)

It was most probably the Shevet Sofer
Actually, it was the Shevet Sofer. Feldheim has just released a new about about Rabbi Yonason Steif – it is simply fascinating.

I also read the book, it is written by his daughter Mrs. Blayer. It’s truly fascinating. He was a real Gadol!!
