Biographical Notes:
The Rav was born in Sejni, Russia in the province of Suvalk. He arrived in Chicago in 1883 where he became known as the Suvalker Rav.

“RABBI JOSEPH KOMISARSKY DIES OF OPERATION’S EFFECTS
CHICAGO, June 19.—Rabbi Joseph Komisarsky, 78 years old, one of the best-known Jews in the west and head of the orthodox Jewish church In Chicago, died yesterday at the Michael Reese hospital, where he had under gone an operation.
Rabbi Komisarsky was largely responsible for the establishing of a section in the large slaughtering houses ‘at the stockyards where kosher meat is handled.”
The Rav might be born in Germany, but he definetley lived in Suvolk, Russia-Poland prior to his coming to the US where his daughter Rachel Amsel was born in 1861.
