Relationship to current Bobover Rebbe?
Reb Liebel,
Of course they are related (Bobov 45) but not to close, they are/were both descendants of Rebbe Mordecahi Dovid Unger of Dombrove, and bothe were named after him.
The Sanzer Ruv Z”l the Divrei Chaim, was a Mechuten of him, since Rebbe Moshe Unger the son of RMD was his SIL, and in his third marriage the Sanzer Ruv was the SIL of a grandson of RMD of Dombrove.
The second set of children of the Sanzer Ruv were born to this wife, so allot of Sanzer Einiklech are also Dombrove Einiklech, including the Bobover Rebbes, since the wife of Reb Benzion HS the Kedushas Tzion was the daughter of Rebbe Shulem Eliezer HS who was born to the thrid wife of the Divrie Chaim.
So I gave you the whole rundown…..
The Hamodia ran his bio a couple of weeks back, it said that he was a descendant of Belz and Apt as well any idea how?
תעיין נא, בספר נאמנו מא”ד, שיו”ל ע”י רבי נחום מאיר גערמאן.
This family descends from R’ Meir of Apt, who wrote the אור לשמים. Not from R’ Avrohom Yehoshua Heshel of Apt.
They descend from Belz through a daughter of R’ Shalom.
Any idea exactly how he descended from Belz? I heard that his father married a daughter of Reb Moshe Rokeach of Karov, eldest son of the Sar Shalom, but this does not seem to be documented in the ‘official’ Belzer biographies.
He was the father-in-law of the big ba’al chesed R’ Avrohom Oberstein z”l.

What was Rebbe Meir Mordechai Dovid Unger’s mothers name? Where was he a Rav in the USA and where was he a Rav in Eurpoe?
These Ungers descend from Reb Mordche Duvidl’s second son, R’ Menachem Mendel of Stovnitz. The rebbe of Bobov 45 descends from Reb Mordche Duvidl’s oldest Son, Reb Yossele. Reb Mordche Duvidl’s third son was Reb Moshe, who was the oldest SIL of the Divrei Chaim of Tzanz. He is buried in Tzfas. The fourth son was Reb Tzvi Hersh. He was the father of the Divrei Chaim’s third wife, the mother of the younger children, including the sons – Reb Shulem Lazer of Ratzferd and Reb Shayale of Cechoiv.
The Apte connection is Reb Meir of Apte, author of Ohr Lashomayim. The family name, which exists elsewhere in the family, of meir Mordche Duvid is the combination of the two zaides.
The Belz connection comes from an uneducated guess that assumes that in a specific Chasuna between Belz and R’ Menachem Mendel of Stobnitz, the chasan was R’ Yisroel Unger (R’ Meir Mordechai Dovid Unger’s father). This cannot be true. The Saraf of Moglenica who attended the Belzer Chasuna in question was niftar in 1949. Since this chasuna took place prior to 1949, R’ Yisroel Unger who was less than 11 years old at that time, could not have possibly been the chasan.
