I spoke to somebody today about R’ Lifshitz – he knew very little about him, but said that he had been associated with the old Hungarian community of Toronto. If anybody here from Toronto knows Mr. Perl, it was suggested that he would remember him & it would be worth asking him.
I chanced upon this Kever just last week. It’s in plot 15 in Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, NY. Not in Toronto, as written here. I have a picture to prove it.
He was buried in the Chelka of the Brownsville Stoliner Shul. If anyone has any info regarding this Reb Alter Lifshitz z”l from Brownsville, [or anything about brownsville and the stoliner shul there] I would love to hear it.

This is the father-in-law of the great Rabbi Yizchok Hutner – Pachad Yizchok
Now that we learned that he is buried in NY, I would think that the information that he was a Rav in Toronto might also be inaccurate.
Rav Lifshitz was the Brother-in-law of Reb Pesach Fruskin of Kubrin, besides the daughter Masha that was married the Rabbi Hutner, he had a son Reb Zev Lifshitz, see here:

His son Reb Zev seems to have been a Moreh Hora’ah too. The following is the nussach on his matzeiva:

I heard he was a very wealthy man. I saw many seforim in which the name הגביר רבי מיכאל ליפשיץ from Bialistok is mentioned in the פערנומעראנטן. On his wife’s kever it says מחברתו בקודש של הרב מיכאל י”א אלטר ליפשיץ, so it seems he was called by his first and last of his four given names: Michoel and Alter.
As Miller mentioned, Reb Alter Lifshitz’s sister was the wife of Hagaon Reb Pesach Pruskin zt”l, the Kobriner R”Y.
Did Rabbi Lifshitz have any connection to Stoliner chasidim since he is beried on the Stoliner Chelka?

Rabbi Alter had only 2 children: Masha and Wolf, Masha married to R.Izhak Hutner and Wolf never got married.He died in 1984 in his appartment in Queens and was found dead few weeks later.
