   Every time I pass the Shul in the lower east side I am asking the same question, is this still active?

   It sounds tough that it is indeed in use ain some fashion.

   ר’ בנימין ברוך גוטה נולד בשנת תרט”ו בעיר סאטמאר לאביו ר’ אברהם יהושע העשיל, למד בהישיבות של ר’ מאיר פערל’ס בקראלי, ר’ דוד דייטש בטאקאי, ואצל הכתב סופר בפרעשבורג, נסמך להוראה ע”י רבו הראשון של סאטמאר ר’ בנימין זאב מאנדעלבוים.
   הוא היה מהרבנים הגדולים באמעריקא ופעל הרבה לחיזוק הדת, שימש כרב דביהמ”ד אנשי טשענסטעכאוו-חתם סופר (על קלינטאן סטריט שקיים עד היום בתפילות תמידים כסדרן בוקר וערב), היה מוכר בעיקר אצל יוצאי רומני’ ואונגארן, והיה חבר פעיל באגודת הרבנים, בראשית ימי ישיבת רבינו יצחק אלחנן היה הוא דורש לפניהם בכל עת מצוא, ואף המציא להם סכומים אדירים לקיומו, אבל כשנטו מהדרך הארגינעלי עזב אותם,
   הו”ל ספר ‘שיטה מקובצת החדש’.
   נפטר י”ד אלול תרצ”ה.

   Can anyone clarify what the third line on the marker means?
   ואנשי אינסט. ביהכנ”ס ____ שנה
   Which Shul is this reffering to, and it appears that they left blank the anmount of years he served as rav.

   I found that the Clinton St. Shul Congregation Chasam Sopher, was formed by the merger of two Polish societies named for their hometowns of Czesto- chowa and Unterstanestier, and that is the Shul mentioned on the stone.
