This is my great grandfather who was a rav in Newark. His son Rav Dovid Singer took over for him when he died. Rav Eliyahu wrote out the Meharsham’s sefarim for him. His wife was Raizel outlived him by many years.
Sara, are you related to Joseph Gross of Newark, “mechutan” of Rabbi Mendelsson’s (also listed on this site)
This is also my great grandfather, he was a descendant of Reb Heshil of Krakow and his wife Dina Katzenellenbogen, granddaughter of the Rema and who was descended from the Maharam Mi’Padua, who was descended from Rashi, who was descended from Yochanan Hasandlar, who was descended from David HaMelech.
I don’t understand what Joseph wrote. Is he discribing Rav Eli Singers yechus and if so where did he get this information I’m very interested to know
Is anything known about his congregation in Newark? I’m especially curious if there was a vacancy there in the late 1940s.
