Given the year of his death, I wonder if it was not a present given upon his retirement? I’d love to hear from his surviving relatives.

He was my great-uncle. He was married to my great-aunt, Pesha Kramer and had a son, Yoseph, and a daughter, Rochel. His daughter was the recently passed wife of Rabbi Nochum Rabinovitch of Yeshiva Ma’alei Adumim, Israel.
