Sadly the Rav never had children.
I believe Rabbi Steinberg was the Av Beth Din, or at least a dayan, of the Beth Din of America. Rabbi Gedalia Dov Schwartz, the current Av Beth Din, quotes Rabbi Steinberg, and mentions how he did things (procedures).
could he be identical with R. Moshe Steinberg, who was Rov of the DP camp in Hof, Germany ?
Moshe,
That was a nephew of this rav. T
he one that was in Hof endeed up in Israel, where he was apoointed Rabbi in Kiryat Yam, see photos and biography about him here:

He lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and had a shtiebel on W98th Street. When that shtiebel closed, he davened at the Sassover Shtiebel on W103rd Street. He was indeed the Av Beth Din of the RCA’s beth din. When he died in 1987, the NY Times ran a brief obituary:

His sister married a Herbst, and her grandson was Hagaon Rav Shloime Herbst who was meshamesh him very faithfully and learned his ways of Hora’ah. Rav Herbst later named his Bais Din “Beth Din of America Ner Moshe” in his honor. His brother Hagaon Rav Meyer Steinberg served as a Dayan on the London Beth Din and authored ספר לקוטי מאיר on issues of adoption and yuchsin. Another brother Rav Boruch Steinberg was chief chaplain of the Polish army and was killed by the Soviets in the famous Katyn massacre. From home they were Tchortkover chassidim, but the Broder Rov became close to Bobov and is buried in the Bobover chelka.
