Biographical Notes:

Born in 1848, the Rav a chossid of the Chidushei Harim of Gur came from Malawa, Poland. Arriving on these shores in 1872 where he became very successful. In addition to the shul he established on 34 West 119th Street, he funded Chasdei Avos yeshiva in Chevron and helped establish a Hebrew school here in New York City. In 1881, he bought a huge plot of land in the Machpelah Cemetery, the Greenberg Lodge, which was only opened to Shomrei Shabbos and the indigent.
