    When his father Rav Shraga Feivel Shulem of Alexander was niftar in 1954, Alexander Chassidim in Israel sent him a letter appointing him as the new Alexander Rebbe.

    He adamantly refused although he was a talmid chochom and yiray shomayim.

    The Satmar Rebbe (Rav Yoiyel) begged him to accept, but he said that he couldn’t, having seen the Yismach Yisroel as a child and knew what a real rebbe was.

    He encouraged his cousins in Israel (Tyberg Danziger) and Boro Park (Singer) to become Rebbes.

    He was my mother’s father.
