Baruch, do U have a picture of the matseiva, so that we should be able to C his and his fathers names.
The ohel is locked, who has the key?
his fathers name was “r’ yisruel david” rav of weiclitz, poland
His fathers name was Reb Yisroel Rav of Vaslitz and a talmud of the Divrei Chaim.
Last time I was there there was a open door on the inside of the Bais Hachaim. I think it is connected to another room which is used by the caretakers and there is a door between the rooms.
That explains the white house attached to the ohel.
You can gain access from the attached white (empty) ohel, there is a combination lock on the door
Interestingly, the Rebbe and Rebbetzin are buried in the same ohel. Does he have any descendants?
As is the Satmar Rebbe and Rebbetzin, why do you find that interesting?
The Skvira Rebbes are buried in separate ohels.
A-zoy hut de tuta gaton!!!!!!!
Apparently, each has his own custom.
In Dzikov the rebbes daughter was buried un the same ohel, about the rebbetzins I don’t remember right now.
As for Satmer that was the minhag in Siget and Ihel.
In Vizhnits, Komarna, Tsandz, Spinka inderheim the rebbetzins were not buried in the same ohel
In Riminev the Rebbe Reb Mendele is buried with the Rebetzin in the same ohel, same is in Sanz with some Rebetzins.
In Benie-Brak Viznits there is a seperate Ohel for Rebetzins.
Avraham Avinu is buried along side his Rebbetzin.
Rav Herschele Spinka, his Rebbetzin and daughter are in the same ohel.
The Bobover Rebbetzin is buried outside the ohel.
The Stretiner Rebbe in NJ is buried together with his Rebbetzin.
I have seen several places in Eastern Europe where woman are buried in the Ohel of a Tzaddik.
In one case a daughter in law is buried with her father in law the previous Rebbe.
DuvidL, thats why I wrote above that inderheim in Spinka it wasn’t so.
But in Munkatch the rebbetzun of the Chakal Yitschok is burid in the same ohel with her father the Veretskier rov-Ziditchoiver rebbe the Malbush.
Miller, in Tsanz the rebbetzuns R not buried in the ohel.
In Vizhnits Bnei Brak, the ohel of the rebbetzins is not of the Imrei Cayim nor his brother the Mekor Burech.
Each has his own custom, some Admorim were against being buried in an ohel altogether. I have never been to Eastern Europe, but from the pictures its apparent that the Belzer Admorim are not in an ohel.
One commenter asked if Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Horowitz has any descendants. I am his great, great grandson. I live in Washington, D.C. But my cousin, also named Naftali Tzvi, runs a yeshiva for the deaf in Toronto. I’d love to hear stories or other information you might have about Rabbi Horowitz.
Oops. I meant to write that my cousin is Chaim Tzvi.
You must mean Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Kakon of Yeshivas Nefesh Dovid.
the rebbe’s son-in-law was reb shmul avrom rabinowitz mezebizer rebbe from ny, he was the son of reb ” eliezer chaim jampole rebbe” and the first rebbe in the us.
http://kevarim.vohost.us/rebbe-shmuel-avraham-rabinowitz/
He had a son R’ Yosef Boruch who was killed in the war. R’ Yosef Boruch had a son R’ Shmuel Zanvil who lived in Boro Park.
Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Kakon Shlit’a is a sfardisha
GrandRebbe:
Not only are they buried in the same ohel they share the same tombstone.
Thank you,
Rav Elya Meir Bloch ZT”L is buried together in the same Ohel as his Rebbetzin A”H.
Because he was a Litvak.
This has nothing to do with chassidish or Litvish, There are different minhagim in different Kehilos.
Does anyone have bio info on the Rebbe?
Baruch,
I recently noticed in Eichlers in BP a small booklet with biographies on Rabbonim of Toronto, they have there a short Bio and a photo of the Rebbe.
Unfurtanutley I forget the name of the book, its located in the Hebrew Biography section on the right side when you come in the stroe.
The Rebbe was a son of Rav Yisroel Horowitz of Vaslits a talmud of the Divrei Chaim and 1 of 3 talmudim that recieved smicha from the Divrei Chaim. The Bobover Rebbe zt”l told over that on that famous Shavuos that the Tiferes Slome of Radomsk came to Sanz the Radomske davened shachris and they ommited yotsros as was the minhag in Poland. The Sanzer then told the Radomske “let me show you how a Ropshitze Ainekil can daven”, and sent up his talmud the Vaslitze Rov. Reb Yisroel was a son of Reb Menachem Mendel of Linsk who was a son of Reb Avrum Chaim of Linsk who was the oldest son of the Ropshitzer . The kehila in Toronto sent a message to the Krakow that they need a Rov and the Rabbonim there chose Reb Naftuli Tzvi to go. The Kehila in Toronto was shocked when they recieved a Rebbe. Reb Naftuli Tzvi was also pressured to come by his daughter who was married to the Brownsviller Mezbisher Rebbe , Reb Shmuel Avrohom Rabinowitz a son of the Yampole Rebbe, Reb Eliezer Chaim, who was already in the United States since 1912. The Brownsville Rebbe also lived for about 2 years in Canada in St. Sifei, near Montreal, as he had to get away from NY since the authorities were after him for “giving out prescriptions for healing without being a pharmacist “.The Brownsville was a Baal Mofes and he gave out Kameos which helped people. In those days they accused him of witchcraft. He had to stay away for 2 years until he settled with the government.

I was there this past Friday and the near empty shed is removed and the Ohel has a nicer look.
I’ll send you the picture it’s clearer then tho one posted.
I learned from an article someone linked today on this site that not he was the one who was called the Krukever-Torontoer Rebbe. There was a Rabbi Tzanger not at all a rebbishe einikel a Bobover Chusid who later moved to Montreal, he was called the Krukever-Torontoer Rebbe.
There are many very interesting information in this article http://pi.library.yorku.ca/ojs/index.php/cjs/article/viewFile/22624/21095
The Rebe’s son Yosef Baruch perished in the holocaust along with an older brother, Menachem Mendel.
Reb Yosef Baruch’s son, Shmuel Zanvil, survived and lived in Boro Park, and he is survived by two sons, in Flatbush and Toronto.
The Rebe had one son who did join him in Toronto, Reb Avraham, who retired to Jerusalem, Israel.
I am a direct descendant – ben achar ben from him and of course the Ropschitzer himself.
R’ Kakon in Toronto is a cousin of mine and a great man. A “doer” not just a talker (he and his wife).
What was Naftali Tzvi’s wife’s name?
I’m doing some research on the descendants of Rabbi Naftali Horowitz Of Veislitz. Does anyone know what his Rebitzinws name was?
The Rebetzins name was Reb. Tzine Leah she was the daughter of Reb Dovid Zilberstien from Volizove in the area of Belz.
Yingele;
Thanx a million for the info. By the way was this Reb Dovid Zilberstein A Rebbishe Einikel? Also would you have a photo from the matzeiva of Reb. Tzina Leah?
I don’t have a photo. She is buried in the Ohel next to her husband the Rebbe. I saw a letter written by their son Reb Avrumche with the name and that he was a son of Reb Hershel Arender who’s brother was a son in law of the Rodishitser Rebbe.
My father, Avraham Chaim Horowitz son of Yosef Bendet Horowitz, son of Avraham Chaim Horowitz, son of Moshe Zeev (Wolf) Horowitz, was taught that he was 6th generation from Rav Naftali Zvi, Ropshitzer Rebbe. Avraham Chaim, son of Moshe Zeev was buried in England, 17 Tevet, 5676 or 1917 limineyhem. Can anyone help me discern how we are descendants? Family legend has us descend via Rav Elazar m’dzigow, but the only Avraham Chaim I see at that time was the Plontcher Rav, whom I understand perished in Auswitz.
I was at the ohel a week ago. The white shed is gone and the door was locked. Sadly, one of the windows were smashed so I was able to get in.
the mateiva reads as follows:

Looking at my photo of the Rebitzin’s side of the matzeiva and sadly it isn’t too clear. Here is what I can read:
הרבנית הצדקית המצוינה ב? ובצדקת לבבה
הטהור מרת צינא לאה ע”ה
בת החסיד המרומם המפורסם
איש חי ורב פעלים פזר נתן
לאביונים וצדקתו עומדת לעד
הר’ דוד זילבערשטיין ז”ל
מגזע גדולים וקדושים…..
The rest is illegible in the pic.
There is an electronic lock on my Zaide’s Oihel, the number is 1927. Sometimes the lock can freeze in the winter. If you have a problem getting in please leave me a message at 416 782 4348 and BL”N I’ll try to take care of it.
