He also died in 1941
IN 1941 THE REBBE’S FATHER R’ PINCHAS DOVID PASSED AWAY after a massive heart attack. This was very hard on the Horowitz’s, as their father was only sixty four. R’ Pinchas Dovid’s wish was to be buried in the Har Hazeitim Cemetery next to his father, R’ Shmuel Shmelka, but since WWII had started, being buried in Israel was not an option. So, he was buried in Long Island. Four and a half years later in 1946, the Rebbe decided to try to fulfill his father’s wishes and he re-interred his father in Israel. The journey was long, hard, and stressful, but after months of legal documentation, he finally got the permission to re-bury his father The Chevra Kadisha was very worried about this project. They thought that the plain pine box in which holding his father would have been rotten to the core. The day came when they dug up the remains of his father, and to their surprise the Aron was still intact. They got the Rebbe and his family on to the boat with the Aron packed away. The weather was supposed to be dreadful and was expected to take sixteen days to get to Israel, but the forecast changed and they got to Israel in two days. Two days later they arrived at the port in Israel, and loaded the Aron off of the boat. The truck that was supposed to carrey the Aron was canceled, and they had to find a different way to get it to the location of where the Chevra Kadisha was. The Aron was sitting putin ninety three degree weather, which would speed up the time of decomposition. After hours of searching they found an old broken down pickup truck that would take them to the Chevra Kadisha. Forty Five minutes later they arrived at the Chevra Kadisha, and the men would examine the niftar. Twenty minutes later, a man ran into the waiting room in which the Rebbe was waiting in. In total shock the man screamed with a smile “The body is in perfect tact, in fact, it’s so good it looks like he had passed away yesterday!”. With a huge smile the Rebbe felt better. They put his fathers body back in the Aron and place it in a Big Metal box. With shock the Rebbe screamed “what are you doing, he has to be placed in the ground without an Aron!”. They went to the cemetery to bury his father, and they slid his fathers body into the freshly dug grave. His wishes to be back in the Holy Land were complete.
