That Rav, an active member of Ezras Torah, was a student of the Chafetz Chaim as well as Yeshivas Knesses Yisrael Sloboda, where he was ordained by Rav Moshe Mordechai Epstein. He arrived here in 1924 from Bialystok Poland.

I once heard that the Chofetz Chaim told him that a Rov who is not ready to take upon himself to teach Torah to the youth has no business being a Rov. Rav Kurtz took this to heart and spent many hours working with the young people in Rochester. There is a large family in Monsey who originally lived in Rochester, Rav Kurtz was very close to their father and taught a few of the children privately. Rosh Hakolel you are so correct. my Shver AH was an orphan from his father in Rochester. The Rav ZATZAL took him to Torah Vadaas and he became a devoted talmid chacham who spent his life in rabbanos and learning. His son is one of the leading Maarbetzei Torah as well as a third generation of harbazas Torah and kolel leit. All thanks to Rav Kurtz ZATZAL.
Rav Hutner ZATZAL was very machshiv him and sent talmidim to his levaya.
Rabbi Kurtz zatzal holds a very special place in my heart. My father, Mordechai (Mort) Wolin grew up in Rochester in the 1930’s and shortly after his Bar Mitzvah, Rabbi Kurtz took a personal interest in his Torah education. He arranged for and encouraged my father to leave home and attend Torah V’Adaas Yeshiva in New York. My father followed Rabbi Kurtz’s advice and left home to attend Yeshiva, where he developed a lifelong love for learning Torah. He went on to learn further in Ner Yisroel and then married and raised a frum family of his own. I am sure that Rabbi Kurtz’s involvement in directing my father to learn in Yeshiva helped develop the path and course of the rest of his life.
Rebitzen Yenta Fraida Kurtz, his wife, was my mother’s aunt and, I believe, my parent’s shadchin. My father, my older brother, (Alayhem Hasholom), and I were born and lived in Rochester, N.Y. Though the Rav died weeks before my brother’s bar mitzvah, his impact on my brother and thru him on me (almost 4 years younger) certainly played the major role in my being a yeshiva-man and the father of Torahdica families. Does anyone know where rabbi Kurtz is buried. I’ve seen conflicting sources. Some say hat hamenuchos and some say Rochester.

I visited Rav Kurtz’s kever this past July, 2023. He was transferred from internment in Rochester, NY to HarHamenuchos over two years after his petirah. His wife Yente Fraide Kurz moved to Israel and arranged for the transfer of internment.
His kever can be found in the first Chelkah of HarHamenuchos,.
Rebbitzen Kurtz is also buried there.
Malka Schulman (wife of Berel Schulman, Passaic, NJ; great nephew to Rebbitzen Kurtz).
