Is he possibly related to the Chabad chasid of yesteryear R’ Shmuel Michel Trainin of S. Petersburg?
The names on the matzeiva here have a distinct Chabad ring to them..
Also seems from here, that he was a big rov or lamdan with a kehilla from the matzeiva (was it literally Kehilas Yeshurun or that’s a shem hamush’al?). Where, which shul?
Rav Meir Kahana’s hy”d mother was a Trainin.
What a wonderful website. He was my grandfather but he died before my first birthday. I was always told that although his family was Chabad, he was a mitnagid. I didn’t realize that my parents are buried in the same cemetery and never saw these matzevim.
And yes, Rav Meir, my first cousin, hy’d, is also his grandson as his daughter, Sonya, married Rav Yechezkel Kahana.
I could try to find out. He was my grandfather. I believe he came from a Hassidic family but was a “mitnaged.”
