Benjamin Aronowizt was my great grandfather, very cool to have found this!
Rabbi Aronowitz was my great grandfather.
Please tell us a little about your grandfather.
I don’t, nor do I think my brother Eric know a great deal about him, he was born long before either of us was born. BTW MBD he was our great grandfather. All I really know is that he had 7 children 3 boys, 4 girls. All but one was born in Lithuania. His son Joseph was our grandfather. I also know he lived in the Bronx.
correction, he died long before either of us was born.
Brian and Eric,
You might want to dig into your Gfather’s history and perhaps write a biographicak book about him, or collect his Talmudic Comentaries distributed in various periodicals of his time.
Rav Aronowitz was born in Varzhan, Lithuania in 1864, came to the US in 1906, served first in Lowell, Mas. before coming to REITS in NY.
He estblished the office of Agudath Yisroel in the US and was a member in the Agudath Harabanim.
A litlle more about him as well as on the other RIETS Rabanim can be found on thier website

My grandmother Jette ARONOWITZ (married to my grandfather Wulf JAWETZ) was the granddaughter of Rabbi Yitzchak ben Menachem ARONOWITZ of Rietavas, Lithuania (1794-1889). Any relation to the above rabbinical family? And does RIETS stand for? Pardon my ignorance…..
Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, is the rabbinic division of Yeshiva University.
I have sent a photo of Rav Binyamin Aronowitz to Baruch Amsel. Kol Tov

Also, does anyone know what it says on his grave?
Hi BD,
The marker on his grave says:
“Here is buried, our beloved father, the Rabbi the “Gaon” (Torah genious) Rabbi Binyumin son of R’ Yosef Aronowitz, who served as R”M (abbreciation for Resh Mesivta which is an Aramaic phrase for an instructor on Talmudic studies) in the Yeshivah Rabbi Isaac Elchanan.
Born on 15 Nissan 5523 died on 8 Tishri 5606″
Thank you! I just noticed that you’d answered. I appreciate it very much. ( And the picture too.)

Any connecction to Rabbi Aronowitz, who was a hebrew teacher at the Chicago Jewish Academy in the 1950s-?
I am also a great granddaughter of Rabbi Aronowitz. The picture of him with his hand on his head was in our living room all my life. He had the most beautiful eyes but since it was an oil painting he watched over us. My mother’s name was Sybil Arens.
I am translating the Sefer קשר תורה by HaRav HaGaon Rabbi Isaac (יצחק) Aharonowitz תז”ל.
According to information received, my late father Toby ע”ה was the son of Julia, nee Rieck, who was the daughter of Moshe Aaron Rieck, husband of Chai Abigail Aharonowitz daughter of HaRav Yitzchok Aharonowitz.
If any descendant of the family is able to provide further information, It would be greatly appreciated.
I would be interested in contacting Henny Moed Roth .I have information on her grandmother Janetta.
I am a 4X great grandson of the Riteva Dayan, Harav Yitzchok ben Menachem Aranovitz ZTL. In 1990, my grandparents printed a copy of the sefer Kesher Torah with glosses and commentary from his grandson (my 2X great grandfather), the Great Gaon and Tzaddik Nachum Lipa Chananya ZTL, who himself published this book in 1906. I am wondering if this Rosh Yeshiva from RIETS is related to the Dayan noted above–they seem to be from the same general area in Lithuania. The Riteve Dayan passed away in 1890 at the age of 95, having completed a Din Torah on the day of his passing. Any information on this connection would be greatly appreciated.
