There are a few letters from the Rayatz to him and it doesn’t seem to be that he held a rabbinical position, it seems more likely that he was an Askan, from other sources it seems the same, but just for what the Rayatz wrote to him in one letter is enough that he should be listed among the great Yidden of America.
והלואי ירבו בעלי בתים, בעלי דעה ישרה ולומדי תורה כמוהו, והיו בעז”ה מעמידים את אמעריקא על אותו הגובה בלימוד וידיעת התורה וקיום המצות כראוי לה
He had a son Reb Nachman who was also a very active Askan and was involved in Yeshivas Reb Chayim Berlin.
