Biographical Notes:

Rav Velenkin, a Ga’on in his own right was originally brought to Yekatrinoslav as a Shochet. Among his many students was one Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, who would go on to become the 7th Lubavitcher Rebbe.

    Rabbi Shneur Zalman Vilenkin was the cheder-teacher of the Lubavitcher Rebbe in his youth in the town of Yekatrinoslav
